Give me Liberty...

Today we went to Philadelphia where the First Presbyterian Church was built in 1704 - only three years after Philadelphia received it's charter from William Penn and where Rev. Francis Makemie organized the first American Presbytery in 1706. (You probably thought I was going to talk about the beginning of our government!) If you are a history buff, Philadelphia is the place to be! It's a beautiful city! Our first stop was the Liberty Bell, of course!

This picture is actually taken from the same location as the one above but looking out the plate glass window onto Independence Hall (not to be confused with Independence Center). We weren't able to get tickets but we were able to walk through some of it - including the rooms where our first congress met.

We picked up my friend, Diana, at the airport at 5 and then headed to Broad Street Ministry where Miriam will be working for the next school year. They have worship every Sunday at 6pm followed by a dinner for anyone that would like to stay. It is an incredible ministry. They are supported by the Presbyterian church and they are meeting in the building of a former Presbyterian church that closed. A youth choir/mission trip from Grand Rapids, MI was there and they sang during the service. It was awesome! We had a chance to meet a lot of interesting people and I'm excited to hear Miriam's tales over the next year.

Of course, we couldn't leave Philadelphia without a run up the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Look out, Rocky! Here we come! It was getting dark so we headed back to Princeton to pack for our NYC Adventure. Move over Carrie, Charlotte & Samantha - Carla, Diana and Miriam are coming to town!

So, next week's SS lesson is "If you're aren't willing to look foolish, you're foolish." I think this Rocky photo will fit in nicely...
